I had a couple of interesting reviews on one of my books. One reviewer gushed that the opening short chapter was the best intro for a book they had ever read. The other reviewer loved the book but advised the readers to simply skip chapter one because it was not indicative of the caliber of the story following.

I simply thanked both reviewers and left it at that.

Thanks to the reviews of my readers, I learned so much and was able to grow immensely. I respect and employ all constructive criticism that they offered, which is the fuel that helps any author hone his or her skill. Once can and should find something to learn from overly negative reviews too, even if some of them offer no constructive criticism nor advice. These are of great help when the authors' study of human nature is a venture quite endless. Though I do agree that starting a raging war on social media with reviewers is unproductive, two are needed to tango...
